Vacation Bible SchoolDon't forget to come and eat supper with us the week of Vacation Bible School. We will have family meal at 5:30 each evening in the Crossroads Center dining room Sunday through Friday night July 25-30. VBS will be from 6:15 until 8:30 p.m. The VBS program will be Friday evening at 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary followed by a family swimming party at King Pool at 8 p.m. You may pre-register your children before and after church in the overflow room this Sunday.Choir NewsMark your calendar because choir practice starts September 8. See Helen if you would like to join the choir and their music ministry.Banquets Need VolunteersWe have 2 banquets coming up that need volunteers. There will be a banquet August 17 with possibly 200 in attendance and another one August 19 for Farmers State Bank. The sign up sheet is on the fellowship table or see Joyce Lemons for either of these events.Church Board MeetingThe next regular Church Board Meeting will be Tuesday, August 10 at 7 p.m. Board packets should be ready for pick up August 8.CWF ScheduleThe new CWF Schedule is ready for 2010-2011. If you missed your copy in the newsletter extra copies are on the sanctuary mantels. The Kick-Off breakfast will be Saturday, August 14, 9 a.m. at Jenny Tate's country home.Recent BirthdayMany of you may remember long time church member Justine Harp. It has come to our attention she is celebrating her 90th birthday. If you would like to send her a card her address is: Justine Harp, Wesley Healthcare, 1200 Grant Street, Macomb, IL 61455.Dedication and New MembersSunday, July 25, was a busy morning for the Ron Goewey family. New baby Dawson Goewey was dedicated by his family to be raised with Christian values and beliefs. Then Ron, Paula and Gretchen came forward and joined the church. We welcome the Goewey's to our church family and are excited to worship with them!Library UseThe church has a wonderfully stocked christian library in the Long Room and children's library in the hallway in the education wing. The Long Room has Bible study material, inspirational and motivational books, different Bible versions, etc. The children's library contains many books on Bible stories. Feel free to review what we have. Each book should have a card for you to use while the book is checked out.Christmas Bazaar PlanningThere will be a CWF Christmas Bazaar planning meeting Monday, August 2 at 9:30 a.m. at Rich's Karpet Korner. This will be for all Bazaar committee chairs. Contact Edna Baughman if you need more information. It's not too late to be thinking about the crafts you would like to make for the Gift Room or try new recipes for the Food Room.Elder's MeetingElders will meet August 3 at 7 pm.Long Range Planning CommitteeThe Long Range Planning Committee will meet August 2 at 6 pm.New Serving SchedulesAugust 29 is the last date on the current serving schedule for 8:00 and 10:30 communion preparation, 10:30 sound system, and 10:30 scripture reader. Everyone on the current schedules will remain on the new 12 month schedules unless the office is contacted otherwise. If you are interested in being added to any of these schedules contact the office for more info.Dads and Lads CampThe public is invited to Dads and Lads camp at Mississippi Valley. Camp starts at 5 pm August 13 and concludes August 14 at 5 pm. Cost is $11 per person. Contact the church office if you need a registration form or log on to the camp's website.Happy Birthday KatherineKatherine Borrowman will be 92 years young on August 6th. If you are looking for something to do and have a green thumb contact one of these ladies.Family Meal CrewsWe are working on Family Meal Schedules for this next school year. If you would consider helping with family meal, please call the church office or see Helen. Also, if you were on the schedule last year and would like to be removed, please call the office. Volunteers are put on a team that works with an assigned cook and are on a rotating schedule. Teams work 5-7 times depending on the number of cooks. We need people that can help with the preparation, people to serve, and people to clean up. We have lots of different jobs and time schedules, so please consider this important ministry of our church. Family meal promotes fellowship in our church family and the proceeds support our kitchen.MVCSC Golf OutingThere will be a Golf Outing to benefit the Mississippi Valley Christian Service Camp Scholarship Program that assists youth who may not otherwise be able to afford camp. The event will be at Old Orchard August 21 with 8 am start. Entry is $60 per person. You may write your prayer on a post it note and place it on either the "Urgent Prayers" section or the middle "Prayer Wall" section. If a prayer has been answered, please take the post-it note off the wall, write the date on which the prayer was answered and place it in the "Answered Prayers" box.Outreach Mission UpdatesThe Outreach Committee currently supports the following missions. Woodhaven is still able to "purchase" items to benefit the men and women they serve with items such as games, craft supplies, technology and more. Please save Bar Code from Campbell soup and Campbell products. You may sign up for the August order at this time or on August 6 from noon until 2:00 at Crossroads.CWF ServicesCWF has nice durable dishcloths for sale through the church office. They cost $1.50 each. Also please cut off and save the fronts of all your greeting cards. There is a box outside Rebecca's office for your card fronts. Hilda Dunham bundles and mails these card fronts to a boy's ranch in Nevada where they make and sell lovely new cards from our recycled cards.Board Meeting ExcerptsThis is a summary only of the July 13, 2010 Board Minutes which are in draft stage and will be reviewed at the next regular meeting August 10, 2010. Copies of the Board Reports are available from the church office. During June Michael had several funerals and spent a lot of time on pastoral counseling and calls. High School week went well at MVCSC. Luke was Assistant Dean with Pastor Michael and Pastor Edison. Nine individuals went to St. Louis Dream Center on CYF trip. Luke has been organizing Open Gyms at Crossroads giving him the opportunity to meet new high school kids in the community. He has been helping with the Summer Lunch Program. He has been preparing for the Lock-In for LIFE and working with the Junior High Band. Contributions are ahead of budget $30,000. Disbursements under budget about $10,000. Crossroad mortgage $434,071. YTD mortgage principal paid $93,643. The Summer Lunch Program attendance is growing. The need at this time has been higher in the outlying towns. It has been opened up to older kids. Other communities have called and asked if we will come to their towns next year. Wednesday Youth will move to the church and the curriculum is changing. Michael Boren, Hamer, Jenny, and N.D. discussed and shared their experiences regarding the 25th anniversary of DHF Conference. Walking HoursCrossroads is closed for walking for the season. Watch the newsletter and local newspapers for our reopen date this fall. Thank you weekly volunteers who have come in to man the office and provide this service to the community.
